Lessons are one-on-one to promote the growth of your child at his or her own pace.
STUDIO CALENDAR, ATTENDANCE & MISSED LESSONS
· Lessons are held on a recurring weekly schedule, same day and time. The studio calendar is made to align with most major holidays and school holidays. Please see the attached piano calendar.
· A specific day and time is reserved for your child. Please make it a priority to attend your lesson. If a student is late, they will only have the remaining time.
It is recommended to arrive 5 minutes early for their lesson with hands washed, books out & shoes under the bench. This will allow us to maximize our learning time.
Piano Students of Greenleaf Studios agree to:
· Bring all level-appropriate books & homework notebook to each lesson.
· Wash hands with soap and water before each lesson. The piano is a shared instrument for all students.
· Be ready to listen, learn and ask questions!
· Set aside time for daily practice & keep a practice log.
· Prepare & perform a song for the Fall & Spring Recital
MISSED LESSON PROTOCOL
· Parents may use a missed lesson time to call and discuss their child’s progress with the teacher.
· Facetime lessons are a good option if the student is feeling well enough or if they are out of town and don’t have a piano (lesson will focus on ear training, rhythm and music theory).
· Request to schedule a make-up lesson.
* Make up lessons are NOT guaranteed and based upon availability.
EXTREME WEATHER POLICIES : In the event that the highway is closed and/or it is a Red Day for School, all piano lessons scheduled for that day will be held virtually at the normally scheduled time on Face Time or Google Meet.
LESSON ETIQUETTE PARENTS:
Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons so they can help at home. There is a bench inside the studio for one parent/guardian to sit and observe the lesson. A larger bench just outside the studio door is available for both parents or a parent & sibling to wait. The outside bench is part of a shared space with other offices; please keep voices to library level.
PERFORMANCE RECITALS:
Fall & Spring Recital attendance is expected for all piano students. Students will prepare one piece for each recital to share in a friendly performance setting. Recitals are geared towards enhancing the student’s self-confidence, public presentation skills, and musical growth. Please reference the Piano Calendar for recital dates.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Parental support is necessary for the success of a young student.
· All students must have a 61 or 88 key acoustic or electric keyboard, weighted keys are recommended.
· Student music books are NOT included in the tuition.
· Parents will help their child establish a daily piano practice routine. The minimum weekly goal is to practice 4 days per week for 15 minutes each day. Practice goals will vary on the age and skill level of each student.
COMMUNICATION : Text or Email is the preferred method of communication:
· Weekly lesson assignments & practice log will be written in a spiral notebook (provided by Ms. Jackie).
· Parents and students will receive a Quarterly Progress Report going over their musical development.
· A Seasonal Studio Newsletter will be sent out each Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
HEALTH & WELLNESS POLICY
· Please remind your child to wash their hands in the bathroom provided downstairs with soap and water prior to their lesson. The piano and headphones are shared equipment amongst students.
· Please do not come to your lesson sick. If your child or someone in the same household as my child is sick and/or showing symptoms of being sick, please notify Jackie Greenleaf via phone call or text, as soon as possible, to discuss a plan about how to proceed. Examples of an infectious illness include but are not limited to: a cold, the flu, lice, pink eye, chicken pox, contagious rash, a fever, strep throat.
TEACHER SICK POLICY: Jackie Greenleaf is permitted two paid sick days pay per year. Should Jackie become sick, parents will be notified that she will initiate her sick leave policy. Lessons that are missed if Jackie uses a sick day will not be made up, credited or reimbursed.
ENROLLMENT & TUITION: Signing up for piano lessons is a year around commitment. Attendance at lessons is expected on a recurring weekly basis on the same day and time. Each scheduled lesson in 30 minutes. Students of Greenleaf Studios:
· receive a balanced music education.
· explore music as a creative outlet
· develop life long skills.
· nurture an appreciation & love for music.
· become musicians.
Tuition is paid in equal payments on the 1st of each month.
· Tuition includes the scheduled lesson times, lesson planning, communication, administrative work, studio supplies for student use, business operation fees, the Fall & Spring Recitals. These costs are calculated and spread evenly over the piano year. This means tuition rate will remain the same each month.
PAYMENT: Payment must be received prior to your lesson. All fees are nonrefundable.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS: Every student stops taking lesson at some point. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can cease with a positive sense of closure. 30 days notice is required if you decide to discontinue lessons. Lessons may be terminated at the discretion of Jacquelyn Greenleaf for any reason, for lack of practice, frequent absences, behavioral problems, delinquency in payment of fees, or failure to abide by the studio policy. Delinquency or lack of monthly payment fees will result in the loss of your scheduled time slot. All fees are non-refundable.
Thank you for you interest and support!
A studio that runs smoothly allows more time for learning and music!
